As I’ve said before, his heart’s in the right place. He can just be overzealous and dogmatic in pushing his ideas and seems absolutely convinced he is not only right about most everything, but morally superior to those who disagree, who are often dismissed out of hand as bigots/fascists/whatever allows him to proceed to label them as a “bad guy” and therefore ignore everything they say. Very quick to jump to black/white, good/evil kind of thinking. Ironically religious and puritanical in a sense, he maybe fits the stereotype of the “Social Justice Warrior” better than anyone else here.

That all said? He’s smart, he’s got a strong moral compass, and as I’ve also said before, many of his faults I shared to a degree myself when younger. So I can hardly call him an HP.

Whenever I disagree with Ferguson, it's usually because he has the stupidest possible reason to support "the right opinion", not because he has "the wrong opinion". This is to say nothing about how he is incapable of making arguments that are longer than one sentence and just as often as not filled with some mixture of ad hominem, deliberate misunderstanding, or smug self-congratulation.

He's an embarrassment to my party. I have said it before but having more people that resemble him will destroy the Democratic party and give the Republic over to fascism. Very bad!

It's hilarious how so many of these replies are "well, his heart is in the right place." The silence on any other aspect of his character is really deafening. Nobody is going to stand up for this dude because they know how much he actually sucks both as a poster and as anything resembling an intellect. But despite being such a garbage poster they can't help but defend him because he has the "right opinions" or whatever.

I completely agree with all of the criticisms of him as a poster, but I still can't bring myself to actually vote HP because he also cares about formatting his posts for readability. Abstaining on this poll too.

I wrote this when he was tempbanned and it's still basically what I think:

To answer the question, though: HP but I oddly still miss him. His opinion was very consistently just the mainstream liberal position on every issue, always stated very coherently and usually defended intelligently. (And it was always true that where it was defended unintelligently, this was always because of blind spots in mainstream liberalism as a whole.) Virtually every thread expects his opinions to be cited in it, and without someone voicing those there often isn't a good poster to reply to or contrast with.
