Someone living in a liberal city in Midwest, for example Madison, Wisconsin is very liberal and lots of Bernie Sanders supporters and also many of German ancestry.  Those of German ancestry may favor GOP overall, but tend to vote the way whites do where they live so in liberal enclaves in Midwest like Minneapolis, Madison, Iowa City you will find lots with German ancestry who are quite progressive.  Its just in more rural, smaller urban, and suburban areas on average more conservative and they outvote former.

Exactly.  There isn't really a German American vote.  There's no German American lobby, German American politicians etc.

Exactly and only reason favor GOP is whites in general do and somewhat more prevalent in rural than urban areas where GOP also does better.  At same time strongest in Midwest which is sort of a bellwether as not as strongly GOP as South, but more so than Northeast or Western US.  New England and Southern US is where smallest which ironically on white vote where Democrats in former and GOP in latter are strongest.
