a LibDem MP of the 'apolitical local personality' variety. He's managed to turn Cornwall SE into a relatively safe seat since he gained it from the Tories in 1997. Cornwall is the only county in England with entirely LibDem parliamentary representation.

Quite right-wing IIRC; not that that's unusual for a West Country LibDem.

Eastern Cornwall has more of a Liberal history (post-1918 anyway) than Western Cornwall, btw.
