Quote
Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) signals that a potential border bill would likely be a no-go for House Republicans are being disregarded among many in the Senate GOP.

Johnson reportedly told his members on a conference call over the weekend that the border cannot be secured without a Republican in the White House, and Saturday circulated a Fox News display laying out what it believed to be in the bill and said he would “absolutely not” accept that package.
Quote
The comments mark his clearest indication yet that an eventual border bill — which has not been finalized — will be dead-on-arrival in the House. That would likely doom Congress’s ability to pass another tranche of Ukraine aid.
Quote
Whether any bipartisan Senate bill could pass muster with House Republicans has been a key question from the beginning, and Johnson’s comments could create a new hurdle.

House Republicans have loudly argued for H.R. 2, the border package that passed the lower chamber with no Democratic votes, with a number of members saying that they would only vote for the partisan proposal.
Quote
Republicans also note that Johnson embraced the idea of tying future Ukraine aid to a border deal.
Quote
Some members also view these negotiations as the last chance to secure any larger-scale border agreement for the foreseeable future, with a Democratic White House heavily seeking a deal and Republicans clamoring for border policy changes.

Hmm, so Biden is willing to move to the right on border issues and offered huge concessions, but the Republicans would rather support their friend Putin than help Biden secure the border.

Thank Christ the alarm bells went off in Europe over this and they’re racking up aid/production along with UK and France giving UA security guarantees this week

I wonder if we will start hearing about the Sunak or Macron government expanding their nuclear weapon programs.

Israeli aid has been blocked too so it’s just not Ukraine aid . The fact is the Senate Deal Lankford wanted to cut is absolutely terrible .

That deal did not crack down on illegal immigration like reports said Biden was willing to so yes we should not approve this national security bill until we actually crack down in illegal immigration .

The Lankford bill was way too friendly to illegal immigrants and the evil people who employ them. Can't really say I'm surprised here, we need a functioning border.

Hopefully the Senate starts to understand that a secure border and lots of Ukraine funding are both vital for our national security.

Senate democrats aren’t willing to move right wards though. That deal they struck does not crack down on illegal immigration at all .

There’s literally no “Lankford” bill out to say is too friendly to illegal immigrants, your going off not only a Fox News report but a Fox News report from one of its most dishonest sources (Ingraham)

It's very easy to understand this entire situation when you know that the GOP is clearly not going to do anything on this issue in an election year.

The "evil people" who employ them is everybody, because they flow into everything. If you eat any food at all, you are part of the "evil" chain that employs them.

GOP doesn't want to solve immigration, if they did what would they scaremonger about? We already saw the politcal fallout from them actually achieving their abortion rhetoric into legislation and court rulings.

Paying workers sub par wages and often blackmailing them with deportation if they protest is evil, not sure why you have quotation marks.

They can do this because we allow it, if they had proper documents they couldn't.

I just read a story about poultry supplier that supplies many people including Chick-fil-A. A 16 year old undocumented boy fell into a machine he was cleaning and was killed. Many of the workers had fake ID's or stolen identities when the authorities did a search. There is no way the employer Mar-Jac did not know this. Employers do this because they're allowed to, and the simplest way to solve this is give people rights who come here to work and do jobs nobody wants or where not enough people are available.

A Mississippi slaughterhouse that supplies chicken to Chick-fil-A is directly to blame for the death of a 16-year-old worker who was sucked into equipment in July and killed within minutes, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday.

OSHA, an agency within the U.S. Labor Department, said that it had cited Georgia-based Mar-Jac Poultry for 14 serious violations and proposed more than $200,000 in fines.

This evil exploitation is the system we want because we are doing nothing to stop it and everybody is complicit. This had happened in red conservative Mississippi, Trump hires nothing but undocumented and foreign(asking for work visas every year) at his properties for years before getting into politics and then comes out the gate demagoguing on immigration.

Their leading figures don't want to solve any problems, especially on the far-right. They ousted McCarthy for not immediately shutting down the entire government and cause severe economic shockwaves.

Yeah, you've got bomb-throwers like Roy openly admitting that they don't want to solve that problem but rather exploit it as a campaign issue.

Not only people like Roy. Johnson himself is admitting this. This is what "the border cannot be secured without a Republican in the White House" means.

3 Trump properties posted 144 openings for seasonal jobs. Only one went to a US worker.

I'm not sure why you think you have the moral high ground here, since you want to deport them.

He is baiting the old man. There is not going to be anything until Trump is POTUS again.

Why negotiate now when you can decide later.

Deporting them immediately is far more ethical than employing them for sh*t wages while they live as second class citizens.
