I highly doubt he runs, but unironically he probably beats Tuberville if he does.

Democrats will have to aggressively expand the map in 2026 if Biden loses badly in 2024 and down-ballot Ds go down with him — only flipping ME/NC won’t be enough in that case, even in a Trump midterm. I could see them propping up 'independent' and celebrity challenges in several red states.

I do expect a favorable environment for Ds (just a matter of how favorable), but many of these states are so red that they’ll need the bottom falling out for Rs. With Trump in the WH and Ds now dramatically benefiting from off-year turnout, it could happen. Still very much uphill, though.

I think it would be more likely that Saban's image would be destroyed in Alabama if he ran as a Democrat rather than him beating Tuberville.

I agree. Why would he want to be a Senator when he could make millions on ESPN College Gameday and work a couple weeks a year.

That said, I think him running in the GOP primary or as an Indie will lead to one of the most interesting campaigns in modern times.

Are we really falling for this again? Even if Democrats would try to expand the map, Alabama's not the place.

Saban could have a Bredesen 2018 style performance here but I don't see him actually winning unless Tuberville turns into Roy Moore.

This would never happen for a million reasons, but do we know much about Saban's political views apart from endorsing his childhood friend Joe Manchin for Senate and vaguely saying he supports voting rights (and opposes abolishing the filibuster)?

It would be hilarious if Saban is elected Senator while Tuberville takes over the coaching vacancy at Alabama.

If Alabama were to go D (or vaguely D-aligned Indy) without having Roy Moore as the R, then Saban would be the guy for it. At the very least he could suck away a lot of R money otherwise bound for Ohio or Montana.

This is the 2026 cycle we're talking about, not 2024. For that cycle, top Republican targets would be GA & MI, with MN, NH, and VA being lower-tier targets; top Democratic targets would be ME & NC, with AK, IA, and TX being lower-tier targets.

for some reason I thought this was talking about this year, lol. Still, especially in a Biden 6-year election, keeping Rs stuck defending safe R states would be good.

Of course it would depend heavily on who is president.

We have a better chance against Daines with Busse should he lose to Gianforte and Tillis should Jeff Jackson lose the AG race and ME with Collins and Jared Golden

Why go after AL and we lost the state 60/40

Hey I made a thread about this before!

Anyway from what I’ve gathered in the past Saban seems to be a Blue Dog like Manchin, maybe slightly to his left. Which COULD work in Alabama if he got insane crossover vote and black turnout. Especially in a Trump midterm.

The Iron Bowl as an election would definitely be something in any case.

Things change if Ds secure the Filibuster proof Trifecta I can see Busse, Jackson, and Saban all running in 26
