The Rangers are calling up former VandyBoy and #2 overall pick, Jack Leiter.  In the first sports game I went to after covid, Leiter pitched a no-hitter for Vandy against South Carolina.

RIP Whitey Herzog. #STLCards #ForTheLou
he was the coach of my favorite team when I cared the most about baseball, so he's special to me.  When I play baseball video games to this day, I usually play "Whitey ball" (good D, high OBP, lots of movement on the basepaths).

Odd play in last night's Braves-Marlins game.  In the first inning, with Ronald Acuña Jr. at third base and Michael Harris II at first, Marlins pitcher Sixto Sánchez spun around toward second -- but there was nobody there!  He was called for a balk because he attempted to throw to an unoccupied base, allowing Acuña to score and Harris to move up to second.

Then in a sort of bookend to the game, the Braves won 4-3 when Harris doubled in Acuña in the bottom of the 10th.

Marlins trade 2B/1B/DH Luis Arráez to the Padres.

when the hell did it become common place to have lineups with multiple sub .200 hitters?  Back in the day, even (most) soft hitting SS and C would give you .225.  And  unless your CF runs like Bolt, catches like glue and throws like Marino, there is never a reason to have an outfielder in your lineup with a .180 BA and a sub .500 OPS.  But the Cardinals do it every freaking day.

Heads need to roll at Busch Stadium, as the Cardinals lose again for the 6th game in a row.

I went home (Alton area) this weekend, and that was certainly the talk of the town.  They all think the manager needs to go, and I agree.  They started a mofo today how is 1-20.  .050!  NO, you don't get to do that.  I'm going to list the Cardinals in order of plate appearances.
Donovan-.209avg,644ops
Arenado-270,703 (if this is your 5th best hitter, he's doing great)
Godly-190,530 (showing his age)
Gorman-.192.643 (I still think this kid will get there, but sheesh)
Contreras-280,950 (and he just broke his arm because his manager told him to stick his glove out there)
Winn-275,694 (a rare bright spot)
Nootbar-198,648

yeah, there is a lot of baseball to play and the team is better than how they are playing, but it needs to change/get fixed and soon.  They did manage to hold off getting swept in Milwaukee today.
