Gerald R. Ford

The last truly moderate Republican with no scandals. I would have voted for him in 1976.

I cannot in good conscience vote for the guy who pardoned Nixon, but he would otherwise be the only redeemable one of the bunch

Nixon effectively won the Cold War, but I still voted Trump for what he represents rather than what he accomplished.

Ford. He was more of a moderate than the rest, and he had good intentions regarding why he chose to appoint John Paul Stevens to the Supreme Court. Stevens comes closer to my ideal of a great Justice; I just wish he realized that the DP and EP Clauses in Section 1 of the 14tj Amendment were not intended to mean what he thinks they mean.

Ford was the only one that truly left America better off than he found it.

Ford was the only one that truly left America better off than he found it.

I know you really dislike Reagan but America was objectively better off on Jan 20th 1989 than it was on Jan 20th 1981. Inflation was significantly lower , unemployment was lower , real Median income had gone up a lot , and the Cold War was winding down .

Like you can argue that Reagan’s policies didn’t cause that but America was objectively better of on Jan 20th 1989 than it was in Jan 20th 1981 and it’s objectively false to say otherwise

I feel like Reagan is a bit shamed of 'cultural decadence', partly thanks to the reppeal of the fairness doctrine during his presidency.
I suppose Ford was the better person, even if he wasn't much moderate on fiscal issue, so I suppose him would be the best of them.

Ford. If it wasn't for Watergate, it would've easily been Nixon.

Gotta love Nixon getting twice the number of votes as Reagan. I guess trying to bug your political opponents and arming genocidal death squads in Indonesia is ok as long as you don't cut taxes.

Gerald Ford cause the least amount of damage during his tenure as president, which is a amazingly low bar given some of the vile men on this list who have caused havoc on the American people and the globe.

Reagan is easily the best (but not perfect).  George W. Bush is easily the second best.  All of the others had glaring issues.
