Or do you believe people should have the right to damage their lungs wherever?

Wikipedia:
Quote
As of July 2018, 29 states have enacted statewide bans on smoking in all enclosed workplaces, including all bars and restaurants: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. Ten other states have enacted statewide smoking bans but have carved out an exception for certain establishments and workplaces: Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

Not all places.  I think people should be allowed to smoke at bars and nightclubs that have one of those smoke eater systems.

Not all.  Most, especially where there's people that don't want to breathe it, but if there's a bar or some other establishment that wants to attract smokers, then I'd make the exception.  When I was little restaurants had a "Smoking" and "Non-Smoking" section, which was ridiculous because the smoke didn't magically stop from flowing into the "Non-Smoking" section.  If you don't smoke a substance, you shouldn't have to breathe that garbage, but if a bunch of smokers want a place where they can go inside (say during cold winters), then there should be places for that.

As someone who spent close to a decade of his life partying in Europe, I have to say 'yeah.'

Kinda gross coming back home with your clothes--and even goddamn sweat and skin--reeking of cigarette smoke.

I don't support a ban by government on all indoor smoking. I do think an establishment should be able to disallow smoking in their establishment or in certain places in their establishment.

tbh it's really annoying to not have anywhere in WA state where I can go smoke cigars.  I know I sound like one of those YouTube sigma male wannabes who always LARP this stuff, but there's really nothing like hanging out by a warm fire with a nice cigar and glass of scotch, talking with your buddies or whoever's around for an hour while you unwind.  I have to do this when I'm in Portland.

No, that decision should be up to whoever owns the building.

Australia banned indoor smoking years ago. I thought you guys did too.

All smoking is outside unless you own the place as a private residence.

Yes. Smoke outside and away from people.

I hate cigarettes with a passion.

I'd say banned by default but allowed in the event of an establishment specifically marketing itself as a smoking bar would be fine.

But they're not damaging only their own lungs, unless they're wearing a fishbowl on their heads and keeping the smoke inside it. Smiley  They're also damaging the lungs of unconsenting other people; the damage from secondhand smoke in enclosed spaces is real.  I agree with the policy patzer suggested above.

What a strange way of looking at the issue.
It's not a matter of what the person is doing, and "damaging their lungs." It's what they are doing to the other people around them (in the same enclosed public place). They don't have a "right to damage other people's lungs."

Is it really that hard for Woody to understand?
Weird.

obviously it should be up to the owners of the establishment in question, and it always should have been.  If there are 8 "da clubs" in an area, 4 smoking, 4 non-smoking, and everybody goes to the smoking ones, THATS NOT THE FAULT OF THE SMOKERS!  It's not their fault they are cooler than you, it's just the way it is.

Yes, if people want to destroy their lungs and teeth and shave time off their lives, they can do that far away enough to avoid spreading their death air to the rest of us.

that's the way it is here too, with a few exceptions (bars in the south and a few "smoke" shops have popped up where weed is legal).  Also, America is a big country, the authorities can't be everywhere, and most people aren't narcs.  There are many places where the owners will let you smoke inside if you aren't blatant about it, I'm especially thinking of medium sized music venues, but I'm sure there are plenty of shady bars in places outside of the south where customers and employees regularly smoke inside.

I basically support an eventual complete ban on smoking, so I am obviously voting yes here.

Yes, absolutely. The ban on indoor public smoking is one of the greatest policy achievements of the United States of the last ~20 years.

If you want to destroy your own lungs, do it outside or in the privacy of your own home. Don't subject the rest of us to second-hand smoke.

There should be exceptions for cigar lounges, hookah bars, casinos, etc.

In most, but not in all, because of this:
There should be exceptions for cigar lounges, hookah bars, casinos, etc.
Had to vote no because of that - but a strong yes on smoking bans in restaurants and the like. Hate to smell like an ashtray just because I had dinner in town. Although I'd be okay with separate smoking sections as long as they're actually separate, with a wall or glass between the two sections.

Definitely. Bans in smoking indoors in public spaces is an objectively good development, and I wouldn't want that to change.
