Yes. I believe that's the current case in Sweden. Absolutely no form of advertising for tobacco whatsoever is allowed there, even things like stores putting up signs saying they sell it. And of course, their tobacco use rates and lung cancer deaths are WAY lower than our's.

I'd much rather see all advertising geared toward small children banned. That's just wrong.

Tobacco television advertising is banned. It doesn't violate the Bill of Rights.

Yes it does.  The fact that the courts have let this one slide doesn't mean it's any less unconstitutional.

Damn, dude.  I thought Democrats were all for the first amendment.
edit:with the exception of Clinton and Lieberman of course.  This puts you in the same camp with them.

Yes, it's voluntary.

No, it should not be banned, you should be able to advertise it in magazines, billboards or anywhere else you can afford to advertise it and the same should apply to beer, wine or hard liquor.

I cant stand smoking, especially in public places, but even so, advertising should be allowed by everyone who has a product that is legal.

They should be allowed to advertise wherever they want to just like any other legal product.

Absolutely not. Apparently, Democrats who advocate this haven't heard of freedom of speech.

No way. They're legal businesses selling a legal product. And we have that whole First Amendment thing.

No - and it's not the tobacco companies' fault that you smoke - it's yours, so get over it!

While I support Free Speech, I do think that any product which has legal restrictions on use, should have advertising restrictions.

This includes, but is not limited to: tobacco, alcohol & prescription drugs.
This would also help keep the cost for prescription drugs down.

I don't think prescription drugs should be advertised either. That kind of defeats the whole point of them being prescription only. Doctors should make prescriptions based on what the best drug is, not on the patient nagging them because of a good ad.

Plus the US and New Zealand are the only two countries in the world that allow prescription drug advertising.

Also, drug companies should not be giving money to the FDA for approval of their drugs.
