Dark Brandon

While Obama easily wins the charisma battle, Biden is clearly more competent as president.

Why do you prefer Biden on social policy (or what is defined as such)? I'd argue he's governing to Obama's left here.

I would say that Obama set the stage with how far left the nation has moved on social issues since 2016 though. Remember that he embraced social activism more than any president in decades, would always use the line "fighting for social justice isnt politics" and would try to encourage young people to do so in academia and even the corporate world as well. These are the things I think that have resulted in society moving so far to the left on these issues since 2016 and also Obama's demographics=destiny strategy in his 2nd term really really caused the Dems to embrace things they otherwise wouldnt have.

Despite not being particularly remarkable, Biden has managed to do more with a far less favorable Congress. His mixed foreign policy has also been by far the best of my lifetime and easily superior to Obama’s.

Biden. In some respects I prefer Bill Clinton to Barack Obama.

On the substance it's hard to say, maybe Biden. Though I'd feel a lot better if Obama was President now running for reelection.

Biden has been a better prez, both domestically and in foreign policy. He managed to get a lot more done with much smaller majorities. He's also better at party leadership, Dems under his watch have done a lot better than under Obama (although there are factors involved that are beyond Biden's sphere of influence).

Also prefer Biden is a character; Obama sometimes comes off as professor-like and eltist, even arrogant at times. Biden is more of an "average dude" type.

Obama was certainly the better politician, but Biden seems like he is doing more with less and with that is also the better party leader which will matter more in the long-term.

Biden is a few notches to the left of Obama and several notches more competent, and my problems with him are all on things Obama was also pretty bad on. Not really a question

Biden. Obama was completely worthless and is almost single-handedly responsible for the mess that this country is in right now.

Obama's reputation among Democrats (at least one the forum) actually tanked much faster than Bubba within his own party after leaving office.

A few years ago I thought Obama would be the Democrats' Reagan. Maybe Biden will be seen as such, at least if he wins reelection.

Obama's reputation among Democrats (at least one the forum) actually tanked much faster than Bubba within his own party after leaving office.

A few years ago I thought Obama would be the Democrats' Reagan. Maybe Biden will be seen as such, at least if he wins reelection.

The issue with the Obama as the Democratic Reagan comparison was :

- Obama was no where near as transformative policy wise as Reagan . Reagan pretty much created an entirely new economic consensus that governed the US until at least 2008 and arguably through 2016(The Neoliberal one ). Obama really doesn’t compare here at all and this is a huge part of Reagan’s legacy

- Reagan left the US on an upswing and as the sole super power which was a very different place than the US was in 1980. Obama on the other hand while he did manage to slow down the US decline of the 2000s , did not really reverse that at all and left a world where Russia and China had far more relative power than it did in 2008.

- Bush easily won in 1988 and thus was able to cement Reagan’s legacy . Hillary not only failed to win but lost to someone like Donald Trump and congress was firmly in the hands of not only the GOP but the Speaker was Paul Ryan who was pretty ideologically to the right .

- Much of Obama’s legacy did get torn up In the first two years of the Trump presidency: Dodd Frank was weakened , the ACA Individual Mandate was Eliminated , we left the Paris climate accords , Obama’s policies towards Iran/Cuba were overturned. Biden outside of reinstating DACA has really not been able to bring back the parts of Obama’s legacy that Trump eliminated in those first two years

So all that is left of Obama = Dem Reagan is that both were very charismatic and once in a generation candidates but this applies to Bill Clinton as well and nobody calls him the Dem Reagan

Nah, Obama was always more Nixonian to me, complete with overextending a war no one wanted anymore after promising to end it.

Ironically enough, I think if you switched their presidencies (Biden 2009-2017 and Obama 2021-present) I think we'd probably be in better shape as a country.

I agree. Biden would've made much more use of a Supermajority in 2009 and 10 and might not have even lost the house in 2010 despite Democrats still netting losses while Obama would have much more experience under his belt going into the Presidency if he were elected in 2020 instead of 2008.

Enter Obama.

He signed the HAMP program into being as one of his first acts as president. My dad swears to this day the relief is the only reason we stayed in a great school district. His opponents didn’t.
He extended unemployment benefits giving, my family the support they needed to pay the bills while my mom was laid off, still fighting over child support in the legal system. His opponents didn’t.
He enabled me to stay covered by my dad’s cushy Federal Employee Program insurance plan for another few years as opposed to purchasing the standard package from my current employer at a market-based premium. His opponents didn’t.
He ordered the hit delivering justice for the thousands of Americans murdered on 9/11. His opponents didn’t.
He ensured via supporting SNAP I ate lunch every school-day. His opponents didn’t.

Voted Obama. To reiterate my prior posts on this matter, I agree more with what Biden says, his prescient decision to oppose Obama on the Afghanistan surge, and his decision to save American tax dollars via his decision to exit that quagmire. That said, I would let Obama lay a double-decker in my kitchen sink a month straight for what he DID
