Interesting. So much for "Genocide Joe."

I guess this is one way Democrats maintain good public perception on something. Kind of refreshing to see.

But I was told by Republicans that Biden is hawkish.

I mean, I wouldn't say Trump is either a hawk or a dove. His bark is worse than his bite, but I could definitely see him increasing use of drones in a hypothetical second term.

Obama was also definitely not a dove on foreign policy.

Post-1980, it seems that this poll is just going based on partisanship. Biden got US troops out of Afghanistan and hasn't sent them anywhere. That's about as dovish as it gets these days.

TBH, "hawk" vs. "dove" is often a useless way of categorizing foreign policy.

The best way to characterize his FP is moronic, or treasonous.

Covid made these "Donald the Dove" morons forget Trump nearly started a war with Iran before being shamed into backing down.

I was talking to a friend of mine a while back who is in MI, he’s real big into Foreign Policy which isn’t exactly surprising considering his career path, but he was talking about how he hated the classification of foreign policy into a binary of Doves and Hawks because foreign policy is one of the more nuanced aspects of policy and being “anti war” or “pro war” generally doesn’t really imply when there are situations like Israel and Gaza versus Ukraine and Russia.

Biden is certainly much more dovish than Obama, who could have either label affixed to him. There would be merit to either characterization.

People have not updated their priors on FoPo. Bush, Clinton, Obama governed as hawks. Biden is quite dovish. Trump is a a wildcard, but he isn’t a hawk.

It's also criminally under discussed how drone-happy he was. Bombings in the Middle East skyrocketed by 400% under him. Some "dove" he was.

Trump was as much of a dove as Bush 43 was.

I agree with your friend. Even compared to other areas of policy, I tend to find internet discussions of foreign policy incredibly frustrating because there never seems to be any room for nuance. Usually it's too crowded out by hindsight bias, or by keyboard warriors convinced that there's some incredibly obvious solution to a given issue (which in reality wouldn't actually work, or is at least much more nuanced than they make it out be).

Imo the one recent president who really deserves either label is Bush II, who was pretty clearly a hawk for launching a pre-emptive war while in the middle of another war.

Well they only asked about Bill, not HRC. Trump is not a purist dove, but Hillary is definitely more Hawkish than he is.

I would like to request an update to our resident computer program. The Benghazi attack did not result in the death of any dictator, it was a terrorist attack that resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians. Obama did not cause Benghazi, neither did Hillary Clinton, although her handling of it was atrocious. Both Gradaffi and Saddam died before Benghazi occurred. No one in their right mind would support or be confused for supporting Benghazi. The fact that this application sees a need to clarify its lack of support for a terrorist attack is very concerning.

As he did in his first.
