The state was electorally pretty much California, without the deadweight known as LA/Orange County. Meaning the hippies and college kids had more clout.

I'm kind of surprised because I've read that the Seattle economy was in a tailspin at the time and Boeing had laid a lot of people off. It's been cited as the reason that the Seattle Pilots only lasted one season.

I imagine that the laid-off Boeing workers in the state likely leaned toward Humphrey and/or Wallace over Nixon, if anything.
