Other than Mt.  Rushmore, what does it have going for it?

Deadwood was a pretty awesome show set there I guess.

There’s a lot more to just the Black Hills region alone than just Mt. Rushmore.

Anyway, I voted Minnesota, even though I live in South Dakota (and was born in Iowa). Mostly because of northeastern Minnesota.

The least Midwestern of them all:  Ohio.

Complicating my answer a bit, Ohio is the superior state for living but Michigan for visiting.  I would never live in Chicago.  The constant boosterism from its proponents is grating and annoying, especially for a city that has fallen so precipitously out of global status in the past century.  It's a Rust Belt city.

Honestly I tried to remain unbiased. In other threads I've said which state is my favorite based on songs.

Michigan has the best song related to it of any of these states:

Although, granted, Chicago makes Illinois no slouch:

One more!  Warts and all, Illinois is easily my favorite.  If we Chicagoans are "Rust Belt," so be it!  Who gives a , lol.

The best state in the Midwest is Chicago.

I live in Chicago and do not support you labeling us as a "state" just because our great state of Illinois is diverse from head to toe.

I have lived approximately 80% of my life in Missouri. I was born and raised in St Charles (city) and lived in St. Charles County most of the first 40 years of my life. I love the music and theater scene in St. Louis. I love the state parks such as Elephant Rocks SP, Tom Sauk Mountain SP, Johnson's Shut-Ins SP, and Onondaga Cave SP. I love restaurants such as Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston and Missouri Hick BBQ in Cuba.

Although I currently live in Illinois, I am only a four-mile drive from the Jefferson Barracks Bridge, and I often go shopping at stores and eating in restaurants in South St. Louis County. I still follow the politics of Missouri even more than I follow the politics of Illinois.

Voted for South Dakota. Truly underrated.

The least Midwestern of them all:  Ohio.

I think I'd give that title to Indiana more than Ohio.

Who are some examples?  Amy Lee was born in California, Hayley Williams was born in Mississippi, Jen Ledger is British.

I do have a soft spot for Ohio.

It's round on the edges and high in the middle.

Seriously. Imagine voting for Ohio and then downing a city for being in the rust belt.
