Homophobic Sanctions Act

An Act to sanction Foreign Assets in Atlasia

Section 1: Title and Intent

1. This act shall be known as the "Homophobic Sanctions Act".

2. The intent of this act is to formalize Atlasian disapproval of Anti-Homosexuality laws around the globe.

Section 2: Sanctions

1. All property and interests in property of the Governments, instrumentalities and controlled entities, and the Banks of the following countries which are or become subject to the jurisdiction of the Republic of Atlasia or which are in or come within the possession or control of persons subject to the jurisdiction of the Republic of Atlasia, are hereby blocked: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Dominica, Egypt, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guinea, Guyana, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Myanmar, Namibia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tongo, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

2. All aid money previously allocated and appropriated to the countries identified above is hereby rescinded.

3. The President is authorized to employ all powers necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act.

4. The President is authorized to remove any nation from this Act by certifying in writing to the President of the Senate that the nation has repealed their criminalization of same-sex marriage.

Section 3: Enactment

1. This Act shall take effect upon its passage.

This bill condemns countries that ban homosexuality. A previous version of this bill failed due to only condemning Uganda in its final form. I believe a direct vote on this version stands a better chance.

Obviously I too disapprove of those governments which refuse to step into the modern era by recognizing the rights of LGBT individuals, however issuing blanket sanctions on 64 countries (each with varying laws on this subject) and rescinding aid will not help remedy this issue. More so, passage of this law would likely destroy our free trade deal with Africa previously ratified by Congress and by President Tack.

Almost a blessing for this Senate that the GMs haven't followed up through with the ramifications of the disastrous fopo y'all keep coming up with, Atlasia might be an international pariah by now.

I won't support this, straining relations with one third of the world simply because of a difference in (a grand scale of things) minor issue, isn't the smartest move. Most of these countries have bigger things to worry about, and bigger challenges to overcome.

I believe homosexuality is really way up in Maslow's hierarchy of needs



Sanctioning so many African nations obviously isn't going to help in particular the African people, and will only increase support for homophobic governments in those countries.

It's also wrong for a "western country" to once again dictate how a different country should govern its country, while a more humble position following their often violent and humiliating approach in their colonial past would be more appropriate.

You're pushing those people in the hands of dictators, and pushing these countries into the pockets of Atlasia's worst enemies, simply because of a disagreement on one issue.

Those countries aren't ready yet for these laws yet. Let progress do its thing over the years and the decades. We were in the not so distant past also homophobic for the most part.
