SB 118-44: Democratic Republic Act - Failed

Whereas, the Republic of Atlasia is a democratic republic, where citizens directly elect Senators to exercise legislative power; and

Whereas, under the Atlasian Constitution, any exercise of legislative power must be subject to a vote of the democratically-elected Senate; and

Whereas, the shifting of legislative power from the democratically-elected Senate to unelected NPC bureaucrats is lazy, unconstitutional, and a betrayal of The People;

1. Now therefore be it ordained that the Regulate Regulatory Regulations Act (SB 116-44/ 2023) is hereby repealed.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.

Since this is proposing to repeal a bill I wrote, I obviously oppose it.

Here is my statement supporting the RRR Act.

The ability of federal agencies to introduce regulations and administer guidelines into their respective fields is a crucial government function. This bill maintains that function whilst ensuring openness and transparency, as well as allowing for optional cost-benefit analyses of all regulations proposed by an executive agency.

This goes hand-in-hand with the repeal of SB 110-05 No More Chevron Deference, a law that seriously hinders, if not totally neuters, the effectiveness of federal agencies. It can be quite difficult to carry out environmental protection laws, for example, if the relevant subdepartments are disallowed from setting guidelines pertaining to pollution levels. I would urge the Senate to amend this bill to include the repeal of certified traitor Mr. R's No More Chevron.
