I've been watching the inauguration of Sarkozy this evening (on France 24), and I find it rather interesting.  There was a lot of ceremony with the changing of power at the Palace (a little more than with the US change) and then with Sarkozy traveling around and visiting various landmarks/monuments to lay wreaths and meet with the public.  If you get a chance to watch it, I recommend it.
