I don't think Trump under-performed in the NYC area.  For example Trump won Suffolk County and did better than Bush in Staten Island and Ocean County.

I don't think Trump under-performed in the NYC area.  For example Trump won Suffolk County and did better than Bush in Staten Island and Ocean County.

That makes sense, they both did better among different segments of New York suburbanites I think but had some overlap. Fairfield County has more Romney-Clinton types that might have been ancestral Republicans but Suffolk and Staten Island have more white ethnic Obama-Trump Democrats whose parents might have been Reagan Democrats.
