Would you consider it a Southern state given it was never Confederate but did have a plantation based economy?

Of the border states (Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and West Virginia), Kentucky is by far the most southern.

Yes. Don’t forget that it was originally part of Virginia and most of its first white settlers were from there.

Yes, it's certainly part of the South, but it always feels slightly less Southern than Tennessee does to me.

Yes, unambiguously.  It only got more culturally Southern after the Civil War ended.

No one who's actually been here would ever ask this question lol. The accents alone give it away.

It's even more Southern than actual Confederate states Virginia and Florida at least.

Yes unquestionably. There is some midwestern influence in northern KY but it’s for sure a southern state.

Amusing lecture on this topic (although it doesn't answer the question directly):

Sharing this not so much in agreement as because it's a perspective that sheds some light on the muddling of Southern identity with agrarian traditions from other regions of the United States.

Yes, my typical definition of the South which I've used in comparing and contrasting American regions is "the eleven Confederate states plus Kentucky".

There are some Midwestern influences in the counties south of Cincinnati and Louisville has a hybrid vibe, but the rest of the state is unequivocally the South.

I would throw in Oklahoma too.

Agreed. Oklahoma goes where Texas goes.

Plus West Virginia, if only because it fits much better in the South than in the Midwest or Northeast, and is thus at least “plurality Southern,” or something like that.

Well I’d expect that to be the case.
