Looking ahead to 2028, do they ignore any Democratic National Committee presidential primary schedule that doesn't place them at the front of the roster again? I suspect the calendar that cycle may look similar to the one in place now as the focus will likely remain on diversifying the early states.
The biggest risk to them leapfrogging again is that it may disincentivize major candidates from competing there if there are similar penalties again. And the field is likely to be wide open.
I seem to recall there being talk of them scheduling each party's primary on separate dates ala South Carolina. But do they have the flexibility to do a compromise like that?
