Not necessary. Kyrsten Sinema won on the same ballot in 2018 and got around the same percentage of the vote as Katie Hobbs, who is well to her left. You end up trading voters for others in most cases. There’s some exceptions in places like ME-02 or WA-03 where a mainstream Democrat probably couldn’t win anymore.
