Imagine referendum on same sex marriage

Imagine if the US were to hold a national referendum on legalizing same sex marriage based solely on the popular vote. What would be the final margins and which states would be the top 5 in favor and the top five against it.

84% Yes and 16% No. The strongest states for Yes would be Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Alaska and Rhode Island, and the strongest for No would be Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana and West Virgínia.

It wouldn't surprise me if "No" wins in a few Deep Southern states and maybe Idaho, but the vote would be far more in favor of gay marriage than even 10 years ago.

I imagine ugly campsings in the Deep South that could endep up hurting democrats in rural Black Belt counties, but also could help them in suburbs.
