What do you think of this movie?

Technically sound and with a great performance from Phoenix.
Other than that, just a cheap Taxi Driver knock-off with a pinch of King of Comedy. It's a movie that thinks it has something important to say but at the end it says nothing at all.

I usually hate muhSuperhero movies--and pay no attention to them--but Joker was excellent.

The only previous superhero films in like the past 30 years that were any good was Ant Man (hilarious, and Rudd is THE MAN), and Black Panther (music was ***ing fantastic, but I guess that's just my overall fascination with Africa, which I've never been to).

Well it's not really a superhero/supervillain movie... it's a movie about how society failed to provide for mental health, and the consequences.

Should've cast a certain Polish-American sextugenarian best known for some cult-classic B-movie for the part, would've been far more believable. than Joaquin Phoenix.

Really weird ripoff of Taxi Driver that doesn't have much interesting to say and was very obviously a different script that got the Joker paint slapped on it to cash in on the superhero trend.

Like can we all agree he wasn't a clown in the original script?  His being a clown is the part of the movie that makes the least sense.  He's miserable and disheveled and freaky and very obviously mentally ill well before the events of the movie that lead to him becoming homicidal and losing his job.  It is not plausible that at any point in his recent history he was considered an entertaining and employable man who was hired by parents to delight children as his profession.  They made him a clown so he could become the joker.

I liked it more than I thought, but it's too much of a Scorcese rip-off for me to fully like. Joaquin Phoenix's performance was a major plus though.

It's fine, and certainly in the top five of modern DC films (as low of a bar as that is).

I don't think of the movie as if it's about the same character that was Batman's nemesis. It was about a different character who happened to have the same name.
