Reagan/Bush of course! Even though I was not born until September of 1988, I am still going to say something. (Even if that does not count, my parents supported Reagan/Bush, and if I was alive, I would have.) Reagan was THE greatest president.

I vote Reagan as well. If there was ever the right man in the right place he was it. He, together with some others, like Margaret Thatcher, restored faith in the Western World and defeated the Soviet Union at a time when it looked we would cave in and lose.

MiamiU, what's with this sudden Anderson-fever? Smiley

My first vote was in 1980 for Ronald Reagan.

I liked Reagan's platform of limited government and strong defense.  I also thought that Carter was a terrible president and that it was actually dangerous for him to continue in office.  I continue to believe that, and that belief has been reinforced by his recent behavior.

I never paid much attention to Anderson.  I hated Carter and wanted him out, so I wasn't going to waste my vote on somebody who couldn't win.

He could have won if the Reaganites had gone moderate for Anderson.

I never liked the look of Anderson. Probably it's just an instinctive reaction to something about the way he looked...There are a lot of Elections where I would not have felt able to vote Democratic but 1980 is not one of them.
And I know that the American economy was in a mess in 1980.

I was a 12 year old little boy in 1980, but I remember vividly the sense that Reagan's election gave America a 'second chance', and in the nick of time.  Of course I grew up surrounded by a very Republican family.

Sorry...I don't know that much about Anderson, but I am sceptical to voting 3rd party in two-party systems. I think Reagan was needed at that time.

We realyl needed a president who would take action behind congress's back and cause huge deficits.  That's what we needed.

I'd have voted for Reagan/Bush because as nice a guy as Carter was 4 more years of him would have been scary.

I supported Anderson because I felt both carter and Reagan were/would be bad presidents, and I was right.

I'd have voted for Carter, but I'd consider Anderson if I lived in a state that was uncompetitive.

You folks would be very surprised at who I supported in 1980. I supported the guy who you'd least expect me to support.

But I was only 7 years old at the time, so I couldn't vote.

It was one of 2 times in my whole life I ever supported the winner.

I was a left leaning European at the time, didn't like Mrs Thatcher at all. However I was certain that I wanted Reagan to win: why?

well as an overseas observer I was primarly interested in US Foreign rather than domestic policy and as such Carter came across as niave and weak when dealing with the Soviets, whereas Reagan was offering a more muscular approach.

I felt Reagan was always an odds-on cert to win the election and despite the odd hick-up proved an excellent President. He had the one qaulity all politicians need.. luck!!

ps one interesting point. Reagan was always regarded in europe as something of a joke, which of course was manifestly unfair. However this is nothing to the hatred that Bush seems to inspire in what would otherwise be regarded as rational people.....

When I was seven, I supported candidates because of the way they looked.  I didn't know any better.
