Interesting.
Not very people here in the US are aware of these two small bodies of stars, that are close to our own galaxy, because of the fact that you can only see them from the Southern Hemisphere.

I support this on the grounds that Magellan's legacy is an erasure of Juan Sebastián Elcano and possibly Enrique of Malacca, as part of a centuries-long dismissal of Malayo-Basque achievements. Wink

we're going to have to name a trillion things in space, it's ok (or at least not that big of a deal) if some of the people some of things are named after did some bad things

isn't one of the constellations literally called "Cancer"?  Even if Magellan is 5 times worse than Columbus, he still wouldn't be as murdery as cancer.

I know. We shouldn’t be renaming stuff just because the person it was named after did some terrible things.
