There probably are quite a few in Salt Lake City.

Maybe they're an LGBTQ+ community member who still adhere to the Mormon religion.

It wouldn't surprise me if a narrow plurality of Mormons under 30 vote Democrat.

I think there are a small and growing number of Mormons who are very turned off by Trumpism because they are fairly well educated. There are precincts in Provo that voted for Biden which would've been unheard of a decade ago. Utah County which voted 88% for Romney and 86% for Bush (insane numbers for a larger urbanized county) dropped down to 66% for Trump in 2020 and more importantly Biden won 26% of the vote compared to Obama's 18% which was the highest support for a Democrat since 1988.

By far the biggest surprise is the absolute number of Democratic voters in 2020. 76,000 Utah County voters voted for Biden which is almost triple the number of voters for Clinton in 2016. There had to have been thousands of Mormons in that group - it seems impossible otherwise.

Johnny Harris from VOX......?

Only, he lives in DC now, used to intern at NATO, and I believe doesn't worship Lord Underwear Jesus anymore.

I love that guy.

It is happening a lot more than the past, which is too much to ignore. As others have mentioned, the raw Democratic vote in Utah has exploded.

Everyone I knew in Utah.. almost literally.. treated McMullin as a Democratic candidate. Local and state elections are different, but I do wonder if a Democrat would exceed 35% of the vote in Utah County in an open statewide race that has a strong Democratic candidate. I think so, especially if the Dem was to win.

Salt Lake County not being able to quite produce Democratic voters over 60% is the largest hurdle right now, along with Utah County raw vote GOP margin. If the latter could be eased up a bit, yeah a Democrat can win Utah this decade or early next decade.

Also, while I still dislike Mormons because they are very corporate and conservative, the realignment feels more genuine than it did in Virginia really.
