This was the only US election when NY voted Republican while PA voted Democratic

Buchanan won Pennsylvania because he was a native son, and Fremont won New York because native son and former president Millard Fillmore took 21% of the vote.

Anti slavery democrats had a strong faction in New York. Then, they united with northern Whigs to create the republican party.

You think Fillmore took more from Buchanan than Fremont in Northern states?!
