Cheaters Never Prosper Act

1 . Every school, college, or university receiving federal funds shall be required by January 1, 2024 to adopt a plagiarism policy prohibiting the use of robots, algorithms, or artificial intelligence, including but not limited to ChatGPT, in the completion of any paper, test, assignment, or other student work product.

What methods would actually be used to prove that something is written by ChatGPT?

Senator LT brings up a very good point. I fear this cannot actually be implemented unless it designates a specific tool used to discover and root out AI-written assignments.

Additionally, speaking as a strong opponent to AI and ChatGPT, the penalty is quite harsh. I understand the intent is to discourage use of AI with a threatening punishment, but to revoke financial aid for two years is a step too far, in my book.

Plagiarism should not be permitted by college students receiving federal money. We are paying for education not cheaters.

IIRC a federal law was passed several years ago during the bicameral days codifying disciplinary hearing due process in colleges, so as this would be a disciplinary violation, accused students are already entitled to ample due process including a presumption of innocence and the right to present evidence and have legal assistance prior to any determination of guilt.

1 . 2 . Beginning January 1, 2024, any student receiving federal student aid who is proven after due process to have used any robot, algorithm, or artificial intelligence, including but not limited to ChatGPT, in the completion of any paper, test, assignment, or other student work product, shall have his or her student aid revoked and shall be ineligible to reapply for such aid for no less than two (2) years.

And it's something that senators like senator Cao must also start to consider that we must not pass bills that we cannot enforce (like terminate cyberdyne).

An interesting attempt to frame your actions in a positive light, but all you did was point to a provision that actually failed to specifically and effectively exempt Laki. You then voted against the repeal that Laki actually wants.
