It's amazing how actual good news barely makes a blip. When this strike was going to "hurt biden" and "hurt the economy", it was the #1 story. Granted, there are major situations going on right now, but the fact this barely made a blip just kind of proves the whole "if it's actually good for Biden in some way, it gets pretty much ignored"

They asked for what they wanted, held together and stood firm. Didn't let the corrupt corporate media slam them without fighting back and the public supported them. Now they got basically everything they asked for. Organize your labor wherever and whenever you can!

Well, Biden certainly did worse than expected in the state. Not sure if that was due to Tlaib but who knows?

Is this even true? Biden ran behind polls in most places but of the five states he flipped Michigan was by far his strongest performance, and it was the first one to be called for him. If Biden is losing Michigan he's probably losing most of the battle ground states.

Shawn Fain is a true hero of the working class. It's been awhile since we saw a major labor leader like him

It was his strongest performance but the margin was a lot weaker than people expected especially considering Trump waived the white flag there in July 2020.

Because Tlaib was famously pro-Israel until this month.

Obviously not, but this is the biggest the issue has gotten in decades in domestic politics so its obvious people would pay more attention to her stances now rather than when the issue was just a backdrop a few years ago.

There are already other threads about Tlaib. No need to derail this one too.

Yeah, I suppose you could use that example.

That being said I doubt Israel will be as salient an issue in November 2024 as it is today.

That's what I'm thinking too. Americans' goldfish memories can assist Democrats sometimes too.

So for anyone who enjoys tracking votes, here are the current membership UAW vote tallies at each company on ratifying their respective deals. To sum up, the deals look likely to pass at Ford and Stellantis(although most of the major factories haven't voted yet) but its looking very dicey over at GM.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BdU9sB2SWGX9yGucYwBgQKBnsfWpZTIh6ZQCZyKNuAo/edit#gid=0 -> Stellantis: 80/20

Like the UAW was saying these companies are full of crap. The CEOs were saying they couldn't afford the wage hikes, it would make everything too expensive for consumers.

Today GM announced a $10 Billion buyback by the end of the year:

The highlight number is a $10 billion buyback that GM expects to complete before the end of the year. But the bigger news is a $6.8 billion purchase that will be made by the end of the week. This is one of the most aggressive buyback plans I've ever seen and could buy back about 17% of the company by the end of the week.

CEO Mary Barra said the new wage contract was essentially no big deal, adding $500 to the purchase of new vehicles, and they also increased the quarterly dividend to shareholders by 33% to 12 cents a share. They always had the money they just didn't want it going to their workers.

Compared to the recent CTU strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike—which sold out most besides the big A-listers over AI—this is an actual and fair result for working people.

Another example showing how Unions benefit all workers even the non-unionized.

Tesla is afraid of their workers unionizing. Because the UAW won their labor dispute against GM, Stellantis, and Ford, Tesla raised pay for its workers as it is fearing a union forming.

Tesla Anticipates UAW Pressure, Adjusts Wages For Its Factory Employees

“Tesla is now following in the footsteps of Toyota, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and almost every other car company in raising wages in the wake of our historic victory,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement Thursday.

The UAW is the only bright spot for progressives in the U.S. currently. Ironic given how unions were the "sick man of progressivism" for decades.
