Which one of McConnell’s two most likely successors wins a primary against each other?

Between these two, Massie. Cameron would have been favored if he didn't have a likely loss to Beshear on his record.

Cameron was a complete fool running for Governor. He was pretty much a shoe-in to take over McConnells Seat once he retires but now it's very questionable if he can beat Massie.

I don’t understand what Cameron was thinking running for Governor this year. Why risk your rising star on the most difficult race of the ones at his disposal? He would have easily won Senate in 2026 or Governor in 2027 if he waited.

He probably thought that partisanship would kick in much stronger than a few years ago and he just needed to point out that Beshear is a Democrat like Biden and that's enough to win a state like Kentucky, including with Trump's blessing. Interestingly though Trump, although he endorsed Cameron, hasn't bothered to get involved in this race.

If Massie becomes a senator, I might move.

A Trump endorsement would be very important in a race like this, and Trump doesn't like Massie. That doesn't necessarily mean Cameron will win or get the endorsement, though.

I'm hoping noted Trump ally and GOP donor PAPA JOHN runs. Unironically could build a broad coalition and be a solid conservative.

Aren't you tired of running celebrity candidates and losing?

Do you think a Republican would lose a Senate election in KENTUCKY???

I think McConnell asked him to, he's become notorious for bad politics.

It's not impossible for a bad enough Republican to lose Kentucky if McConnell is forced to resign early due to a health issue, and an off-cycle special election takes place. It happened in Alabama in 2017.

If Massie and f***ing racist-ass Papa John become the alternatives, then I am actually hoping Cameron wins this primary.

Has there been any talk about Papa John for Senate?

Cameron isn't on par with Moore, though.

Just from Shaula.

But I wouldn't put it past others to want to prop him up too.

McConnell plans to serve out the rest of his Senate term, but given that he’s stepping down as GOP leader in November, I think it’s almost certain that he doesn’t run for another term in 2026.

This gives Daniel Cameron an opening for a political comeback. I expect he’d be the favorite for the Senate seat in 2026.

Don’t think Cameron is a shoo-in for that race after blowing 2023.

“Blowing” a race implies that he was favored at one point. He was never favored against Beshear.

I agree that he wouldn’t be a shoo-in, he’ll definitely have competition in the primary. But I do think Cameron starts out as the frontrunner (but that could certainly change - there’s a lot of time between now and 2026).

Yeah in a world he’s still sitting AG and never ran for Governor, he probably would be able to clear the field. But now he’ll have to work for it.

Imagine if Beshear runs. He won’t win but he could be another Bredesen-esque money pit.
