I don't, because it is my stuff and I can give it to who I want to, I already paid tax on it.

I find it interesting that many conservative Christians oppose a lottery on the basis that it gives people money without working for it--yet oppose an inheritance tax--which results in people being born into wealth.

I don't support taxing the same stuff multiple times.
So I oppose inheritance tax.

I agree. I think we're taxed too much in the first place.

I agree with it but with the Feingold Amendment (which makes the first $100 million exempt).

If the only reason someone gave for banning the lottery was that it gave people money without their working fo it, then Wheel of Fortune should be banned. No, there are other reasons for their opposition. (BTW, I'm not trying to do away with Wheel of Fortune.)

I already indicated on a different thread that I opposed a lottery--just for different reasons than conservative Christians do.

I am in favor of an inheritance tax but not at the current rate of inheritance tax.  The top marginal rate for inheritance tax should be in the 10-20% range, not in the 45-55% range it currently is depending on which year you die.  There shouldn't be any tax with a marginal rate above 20%, and ideally the top marginal rate should be 10%

You know guys, you get taxed if you win the lottery.  I see no reason not to tax someone who has won the "birth lottery".

KEEP TEDDY ROOSEVELT'S INHERITANCE TAX IN PLACE!

Yes, for now.

But, I do think that eventually all taxes and fees except for income taxes should be eliminated, with income taxes being raised by a sufficient amount to compensate for the loss of revenue. The only exceptions would be user fees in areas in which demand would otherwise far outstrip supply (for an example, parking meters in Manhattan shouldn't be free, because otherwise there would be an even more tremendous shortage of it than there is already).

The real cost of the estate tax is that it hurts small business owners.  They have money on paper but realistically don't make enough in cash to pay the estate tax.  So what happens is somebody owns a store or a ranch but brings in under $100k a year, they can't pay the estate tax like that, they have to sell off the family business or go to jail.

This is especially an issue as more and more minority business owners lose their businesses to the estate tax, thus keeping people (in this case, minority former business owners) unduly poor.

Prescisely why we should only tax it for the top 2% Smiley

Of wage earners?  That's very different from assets.  There are plenty of people so rich they do nothing but collect interest on investments (no problem with that).

I oppose the Inhertiance Tax becuase it punishes success. Why add an extra tax to the rich, just because their rich? That sounds like a type of racism.

Wasn't that money already taxed when it was income? Why tax it again?

This is the tax I oppose more than any other.. secondarily I dislike the capital gains tax.  People say heirs 'win the birth lottery', or don't work for their inheritance, but I can tell you from personal experience we kiss a lot of ass for it.
