I find the attention the West Bank is currently getting so low (compared to, say, what's going on near the Lebanese border), that it's borderline propagandistic:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/residents-of-southern-west-bank-hamlet-fleeing-due-to-settler-violence/

If the (mostly preemptive) flight of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians is generally considered to be ethnic cleansing, then what do you call this (which is just the latest of a recent string of such occurrences)?

The behavior of Israeli settlers toward Palestinians in the West Bank makes me think less of Apartheid South Africa and more of the South after Reconstruction ended.

Netanyahu again blamed the 10/7 attack on his generals. Had to delete the tweet in embarrassment/shame. At least Chamberlain had the patriotic balls to resign when his credibility evaporated lol

Netanyahu is a very stable genius.

Honestly, the only thing Netanyahu could do now to save the remnant of his reputation is to commit suicide and leave a letter where he apologized to the victims of the Hamas attack and to the people of Israel, and simply ended it with "I thought I did the right thing to protect Israel and the Israeli people.

We’re in the bad timeline, so this piece of sh!t will do nothing of the sort.

Remarkable how obviously this and the blackout are intended to simply hide the impending mass murder. Will make it much easier for Democrats to say "but what about 10/7?" every time.

This is a strange post because, of course, when American conservatives have criticized Israel over the past month (ie, Mike Collins, "Keep Bombing Hamas"), it's mostly been to the effect that the response is insufficient, and it's easy to imagine a Republican Administration pushing the state to respond much more aggressively.

Right, Jason Crow is not "an American conservative". He is on the left side of our political spectrum; we have an entire party, the Republicans, which in fact win slightly more often than not, and which are far more extreme on the issue than the Democrats even if their fundamental stance is the same. It is much easier to imagine an American government in the near future supporting Israel more than Biden, not less.

Interestingly, two thirds of the Islamic terror attack hostages in Gaza are foreign nationals, including Thai farmers.

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/10/30/asia/thailand-hamas-survivors-intl-hnk/index.html

"According to an estimate released by the Israeli Government Press Office last week, 135 hostages holding foreign passports from 25 different countries are being held in the Gaza Strip."

"The Thai government has called for the release of all remaining citizens being held in Gaza. So far at least 33 Thai nationals have been killed, according to figures shared by Thai authorities with CNN – with 18 Thai nationals still being held hostage as of October 26."

Hamas Comes To Thailand. The parents of Manee Jirachart, spoke to CNN about their 29 year old son still missing. (CNN)

Hamas have completely and utterly stuffed this up. They have kidnapped people from 25 different countries.

Israeli tanks crossed Salah A Din Road (connecting Gaza City to the South), and they will probably move toward the sea and besiege just Gaza city.

The loss of internet connection in Gaza created a fog of war that prevented Hamas from replying and allowed the IDF to shape the battlefield for 3 whole days calmly.

A very good reason, amongst many, why the GOP shouldn't get back total power any time soon.

McCain's widow is extremely worried.

For additional context on this, she is the incumbent Executive Director of the World Food Programme.
Among the most farcical aspects of the global world order, is that the job of ensuring that 160 million people get food is a patronage postion given out by the american president on a whim to whichever gadfly tickles his fancy. The world is lucky that one of Trumps only good appointments was for the WFP director.

There are, in fact, several things Biden could do:

* He could impose a no-fly zone and obliterate the Israeli Airforce

Huh?

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CybLhohSTqf/

That is like a Nazi sympathiser asking the USA and Great Britain to start fighting each other on the day of the Normandy invasion in WW2.

At this stage, a more viable option is for President Biden to withdraw funding of $1 Billion annually to Egypt until they open the Rafah border and start taking Gazan refugees.

Rinse and repeat with Jordan.

At that stage, would you be surprised to learn of any potential links between Egypt and Hamas?

Jordan has absorbed so many refugees over the past 75 years (not merely Palestinians but, in more recent years, Iraqis and Syrians) that the number of refugees and their descendants vastly outstrips the "indigenous" population.

“Why don’t you just make Jordan the Palestinian state?”

Hashemite monarchy: —….—

Ironically, this is the same sort of flippant unconcern with how deeply traumatizing population movements can be that you see with people who insist that the Allies should have made the Zionists set up their state in Uganda or wherever.

A massive forced population transfer of Armenians out of Azerbaijan occurred earlier this year and the international community more or less ignored it.
No one forced the Armenians out of the N-Z region of Azerbaijan. They left on their own accord despite Azerbaijan saying they could stay. The N-Z was an self governing autonomous region that no one in the world recognized. Azerbaijan had every right to take control of its own internationally recognized territory. The Armenians just didn't want to live under Azerbaijan control

Saying that nobody “forced” the Armenians to leave is so deceptive that it’s practically a lie. Their territory, unrecognized or not, was conquered by a dictatorship which has shown no sign of respecting their rights or freedoms. Aliyev has repeatedly denied that Armenia is a real nation and has claimed it has no right to exist. In 2008 an Azeri soldier murdered a sleeping Armenian while in Hungary to take an English course. He was extradited to Azerbaijan to complete his sentence, where he was instead pardoned, promoted, and given a hero’s welcome by Aliyev. Azerbaijan just spent months blockading and starving out the territory in violation of previous agreements. During the war Armenians were tortured, executed in captivity, and in more than one case, beheaded on video.

The flight of the Armenians occurred because this is who conquered their territory. A dictatorship which has committed repeated atrocities against Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh and elsewhere. Frankly it was the only sane option. But yes, you are technically right that nobody actually forced every Armenian to leave at gunpoint.

Was it wise to leave? Perhaps. But its not genocide or ethnic cleansing.

It's somewhat dumber -- it's usually some gadfly recommended by the US Ambassador to the United Nations. (Thus, Trump's choice of David Beasley was actually a choice made by Nikki Haley). There is a bit of a norm that that the Ambassador chooses the US Ambassador to United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, which is a position appointed by the President, but it's far from ironclad. (Trump did not appoint anyone to that role until 2019, when over half his term was over, and the guy he picked was literally 'random county-level GOP apparatchik who supported him in the 2016 primary'.)

Yes and the forum perplexingly thought he was a genius despite that and the other complete garbage he spouted. "LULZ DID YOU KNOW THAT THE GORE FAMILY IS CONNECTED TO OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM?!"
