That has usually always been the case, but this is such an horrific failure of state security policies (especially as what has been happening has been a long-established fear as a possibility) that it might not work out that way this time. Though that's strictly a matter for the longer-term.

This is the first conflict where drones will be used in scale in a way asymmetrical war context   Will be interesting to see what the scale Hamas can use drones to attack and what the IDF tactical response would be.

If iran was behind it, surely Hezbollah would probably be involved or taking advantage of the situation, given they are Tehran's proxy forces. Instead they seem just as taken by surprise as anybody else.
