1. Any interstate surrogacy contract or employment contract provision requiring an abortion or selective reduction is against the public policy of Atlasia and is prohibited, void, and unenforceable.

2. This act shall take effect immediately and apply both retrospectively and prospectively.

You support letting employers tell a woman she has to get an abortion? You support surrogacy contracts that force women that are actually carrying the baby to get abortions?

I do, in fact, support surrogacy, if it is done in a safe and equal manner. I even introduced legislation in Lincoln to that effect. Surrogacy is a great option to grow families in many circumstances.

I have never heard of or seen an employment contract requiring an abortion.

Again, I’ve never heard of or seen a surrogacy contract that would require an abortion. That doesn’t even make logical sense - why would someone go through the extreme costs and burdens of surrogacy only to require their surrogate to abort?

Cook was implanted with three embryos by in vitro fertilization, using sperm from the man and eggs from a donor. The Georgia man’s attorney, Robert Walmsley, said that after all three embryos had developed, doctors told the father-to-be that there were major medical risks associated with multiple births. Doctors suggested that Cook undergo a “reduction,” a medical term used to describe the elimination of a fetus when there are risks to the mother or child.

I believe it will be killing this baby.”

By the time she walked into Hartford Hospital on February 16, 2012, she was 21 weeks pregnant and “absolutely terrified” of what the ultrasound would show and what the parents’ reaction would be.

Kelley disagreed.

“Ms. Kelley feels that all efforts should be made to ‘give the baby a chance’ and seems adamantly opposed to termination,” they wrote.

On February 22, 2012, six days after the fateful ultrasound, Kelley received a letter. The parents had hired a lawyer.

“You are obligated to terminate this pregnancy immediately,” wrote Douglas Fishman, an attorney in West Hartford, Connecticut. “You have squandered precious time.”

On March 5, Kelley would be 24 weeks pregnant, and after that, she couldn’t legally abort the pregnancy, he said.

If a woman enters a surrogacy contract under her own free will that includes an abortion clause, she should be bound by the terms of the contract. A woman who enters a surrogacy contract could choose not to sign a surrogacy contract with an abortion clause if that was her belief.

So if the person who is actually pregnant reconsiders and decides she doesn't want to abort, you support taking away that choice.

A no pregnancy clause is effectively requiring abortion if
you accidentally get pregnant to avoid breach.
