He was a good speaker in terms of his strategy of balancing both wings of the GOP, however refusing to hold Santos and other GOP officials responsible for actions that would get someone fired in any other position is not good.

This is demonstrably untrue given the last 24 hours.

Pathetic. Somehow makes Paul Ryan look like Tip O'Neill.

Turns out when people on both sides say "compromise" what they mean is "giving me everything I want and you get nothing"

In the end, McCarthy tried that approach too.

One of the major points that's always brought up about McCarthy is not just how badly he always wanted to be Speaker, but how everyone always knew just how badly he wanted to Speaker. Well, that has predictable consequences.

After he was elected Speaker, I joked that the worst part was that he probably now thought of himself as a 5D-chess playing strategic genius. He almost certainly felt the same way after getting the CR passed.

He's not going to think that anymore, but he now probably thinks that he was a tough fighter undone by circumstances or something, and that's also completely absurd and untrue, just in a different sense. He brought all of this upon himself.
