He seemed to put in a good faith effort to keep his party united and to pass legislation, but with his party's slim majority combined with unruly members, his leadership turned out to be not enough. I think the interesting question is whether his leadership was actually bad, or if it was the case that he did everything he could with a very difficult situation. But I can't imagine why anybody in the house GOP would want to be speaker after this fiasco.

No. He didn't even try to make a deal with the Democrats.

Exactly-he didn't want their support, but Jeffries is the villain for not giving it?

Why would anyone feel bad about an opportunistic, spineless jerk getting his comeuppances?

No.

As AOC so perfectly summed it up: McCarthy stabbed everyone in DC in the back, then expected people to have his back. And in democrats' case, he expected them to have his back for literally nothing in return. No calling off the absurd impeachment inquiry into Biden, no Ukraine funding, nothing. McCarthy was and is an arrogant, lying piece of s***.

Absolutely not lol

Anyone that was born in Bakersfield, had all of the opportunities that McCarthy had, and chose to stay in Bakersfield is an idiot who has no one to blame but himself. Similar to how he has no one but himself to blame for his speakership blowing up in his face. At least Boehner lasted almost five years.

A Republican without principles or character, AND acts in bad faith instead of admitting what he believes in and wants openly? Not a chance in hell.

I feel worse for Tim Robbins' character from 'Mystic River'...legitimately that guy was put through too much only for Sean Penn to be reassured by Laura Linney that it was okay for him to meet the fate he did.

F*** that movie!

Sorry...went on a tangent there...

Why would anyone ever feel bad for a politician? They are the scum of the earth and deserve our scorn, not our synpathies. They could all go bankrupt and have to live like the drug zombies and I still would have zero sympathy since they are the ones responsible for how bad things are in this country.

I never feel bad for politicians and therefore always vote no in these polls, but McCarthy's an idiot. He could've at least tried to peel off a few moderate Democrats and maybe he would've survived yesterday's vote, but he never did that. He shouldn't be surprised that he lost and he and McCarthy's supporters only have themselves to blame. Republicans deserve blame for repeatedly demonstrating they are incapable of governing. And as the first two years of Trump's term showed, it doesn't even matter when they have a trifecta. The next Speaker will probably not be Speaker in 2025, either because Democrats took back the House or their own caucus was their undoing yet again.

In fact, we should've seen this coming after Boehner and Ryan threw in the towel despite having larger majorities.
