Did they make the right decision to wait until 2028 or would it not make a difference?

It doesn’t matter at all. Paul is probably too niche to win a national primary and Rick Santorum is totally irrelevant.

Rand Paul might be better off running for Senate GOP Leader, he's too young and nerdy to repeat the grandpa act of his dad, and Senate leaders can be more powerfull than Presidents.

Santorum already had his best possible run in 2012.

For Santorum it makes no difference.

I could see Rand Paul getting attention at some point in the future. Countries sometimes have legislative backbenchers get elected to higher office when there's an anti-establishment mood.

Though he may not have the political talent to take advantage of the right environment.
