What did just happen? Is the GOP completely crazy?

Oh, yeah. And you ain't seen nothing yet.

I read about Gaetz threatening to file a motion a couple of days ago, but I honestly did not think they would actually oust their own speaker. Completely off the rails.

I am so sick of the media in this country.

Look at this hot garbage the Daily Beast just put out. I’m honestly surprised it wasn’t Politico.

McCarthy literally voted to nullify the 2020 election *after* the insurrection. He does not in any way represent sanity in leadership.

Mace actually kind of is sounding like she voted against McCarthy from the left:

A speaker elected by Democrats and 10% of Republicans will NEVER happen.

A speaker elected by Republicans and 10% of Democrats is possible but very unlikely.

Hakeem Jeffries will probably demand HE becomes speaker. I don't see any Republican voting for a Democrat. And I doubt Jeffries will allow any Democrat to vote for a Republican speaker without major concessions.

Why would Jeffries  have to "allow it"? We've seen first hand the leader of the house can't force or allow anything, or force a hand.

He probably tells journalists what he thinks they want to hear, and that’s enough. McCarthy’s spinelessness is something he’s occasionally been able to leverage: politicians around him see weakness in the man, and should they overestimate themselves relative to their rivals, they might see McCarthy as their puppet.

Jeffries has a tight lease on his caucus. They follow orders. So any Democratic votes for a compromise speaker would need his blessing. (I think)

This is the funniest day ever. If McCarthy has any sense of humor, he’ll vote for Jeffries as Speaker.

All we need is like 10 Republicans who are finally sick of this insanity to nominate someone like Fitzpatrick and make a deal to put the impeachment inquiry up for a floor vote in the full House.

If someone like Large Marge or the gun lady from western CO becomes speaker I hope Dems are happy for the chaos they've caused.

I wonder if he pulls a Boehner and resigns from his House seat before the next election. There's really nothing keeping him in politics anymore. His life's goal was to become Speaker and all of that just went up in smoke. I can't imagine the level of humiliation he's suffering from right now (not that I give a sh**t).

Now would be a good time for there to be snap elections for the House, but of course we have nothing in the constitution to allow for that. The majority clearly is not going to be able to form a functioning government in the House and there is no remedy to that for well over a year from now.

Matt Gaetz and the House Freedom Caucus are Democrats?
They aided his movement. Gaetz was succesful because Democrats refused to stand up for what's right in the name of petty politics. Now the country will suffer more.

McCarthy had every opportunity to reach out to Democrats for some kind of agreement. He was the leader. This does not appear to have happened.
