There is something about the story of Lauren Boebert and her family that makes it a sad but perfect representation of both the best and worst of rural America. A high school dropout and self made businesswoman who came from nothing and made it all the way to Congress by building genuine connections with voters and speaking about what she believed to be the truth. But also a really sad home life plagued by alcoholism, domestic abuse, teenage pregnancy, etc, which no doubt come from generations of trauma and poverty, and a predisposition towards extremism and conspiracy theories. Once she got elected, the fame and attention she got from the national media went right to her head and she lost any sense of humility and integrity, eventually leading to her downfall.

That signature goal is so low she's probably better off not even trying for the convention. Whether she's smart enough to realize that remains to be seen.

I’m thinking a bigger problem is winning the actual primary. CO-04, unlike CO-03, is not a district favorable to Trumpy firebrands like Boebert and heavily favors more traditional conservative politicians.

I'm not really sure this is true. There are other reasons to think that Boebert herself is not a great fit but I don't see why a Trumpy candidate would be at a disadvantage here. Buck himself was fairly Trumpy before 2020 and he was pro-Trump as state GOP chairman (again, pre-2020).

They like folks like Jim Banks, Andy Biggs, and Byron Donalds, who support Trump’s policies but aren’t style over substance like Boebert, Gaetz, Cawthorn, Santos. Even MTG has slowly been moving into the former camp.

I'll admit that MTG no longer is the "least sane" of the congress, which is an achievement.

And agreed that Boebert is done.

On Saturday night, three years to the day after supporters of Donald Trump attacked the U.S. Capitol building, election objecting Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is the subject of an active police investigation into an alleged physical altercation with her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, at a restaurant in her district Saturday night.
...
According to the aide, on Saturday, Jayson Boebert had called the police to the Miner’s Claim restaurant in Silt, claiming that he was a “victim of domestic violence.” The aide emphasized that Lauren Boebert denies any allegation of domestic violence on her part, and that the events as depicted in social media posts on Saturday were not accurate.

I've been to that resturant. Their thai bowl was surprisingly good!

Perhaps Boebert does have a chance to save the GOP in CO-4: Lynch was arrested for drink driving and illegal firearm possession.

Reading the story, this happened in 2022 so it probably won't be as impactful as if it was a new incident.

Quote
A Colorado State Patrol report details the arrest of Lynch, a Wellington Republican, on Sept. 30, 2022. He was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired. Lynch was sentenced to 18 months of probation, which is still active, with monitored sobriety.

He received a deferred sentence for the weapons charge but was barred from possessing firearms and ordered to complete a handgun safety course.

Are all Colorado Republicans bipolar now or something? This definitely counts as manic behavior.

So just because people have done things wrong in the past, they have to be branded with a scarlet letter for the rest of their life? I guess now that dems have people like you in their coalition now, they have to drop the criminal justice reform part of their party now. Would explain why Trump passed a criminal justice reform bill while Biden hasn’t done Jack on it.

No. It's the fact that six of them raised their hands and seem very proud of it.

While being proud of it is weird, when employers and people like GeorgiaModerate see former prisoners as unable to redeem themselves, maybe a flippant attitude is justified.

Imagine this was a group of black Democratic candidates raising their hands and cheering about committing crimes. We'd have like 5 dedicated Fuzzy Bear threads on it already.

There is a huge difference between being arrested for drunk driving and protesting for a cause....

Not sure why anyone would want to cheer or celebrate being arrested for doing things that actually harm other people.

Well, what to expect from a party whose leader is indicted for 91 charges?

This is a weird, and completely wrong, conclusion to draw from my post, which said absolutely nothing about the ability of former prisoners to redeem themselves (which is something I do believe in).

So, you agree that every convicted felon, after they get out of jail anyway, should have their voting rights restored?

I can just imagine if one of the candidates was black, the Republicans would have started applauding, and then, as the black candidate raised his hand, they would have either suddenly stopped or the clapping would have steadily declined while the crowd collectively made the sound 'ohhhhh.'

Of course. It's disgusting when GOP legislatures take away those rights. I almost want to say people in jail should be able to vote too
