How come Gillhaus ran first in 1908 and second on the ticket in 1912?  That surprises me because i thought with all third parties if the nominee from the previous election was in the selection process he'd/she'd get the nomination.

Maybe because fu**kin Teddy Roosevelt took the nomination.  He kind of was a bigger name imho

Wiki states that Gillhaus wasn#t originally supposed to be the candidate in 1908, but was drafted in after original candidate Morris Compton (a miner union leader) was arrested on murder charges.
