So we already know that the Republican Party could split into two parties, being the Establishment Republicans who would likely keep the title of Republican, and the Trump Republicans, which is if the mainline GOP decided to completely abandon Trump, Trumpism, and tried to primary out all his allies in the Senate/House such as Gaetz, Boebert, Hawley, Vance, etc, etc. However, my question here is, what could cause a divide in the Democratic Party to happen that would lead to a major party split between them into the establishment Democratic Party and a Progressive Party. There are clear fault-lines in the Democratic Party and some Progressives do dislike the Establishment to a wide degree and with Biden as President, this divide has only slightly deepened, so the real question is what could cause the Progressives to finally unlatch themselves from the Democratic Party and have their own run as a new party as the Trumpian Republicans do the same in an alternate timeline? Which Senators and Representatives would be in both of the new parties and who would be the congressional leaders if they left? Strongest districts and states for all four of the major parties (let's call them Democrat, Patriot, Progressive, and Republican for now)?

Outside of that idea, what political things could cause the Progressives to leave the Democratic Party on their own?

I guess if Democrats continue to dominate anti-marijuana candidates for President.
