I doubt it. They first have to show she committed a crime. They can't just impeach because they feel like it.

Section 27 of Article 1 of the Wisconsin State Constitution grants the Republican Party the right to control the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

If they impeach her now, she can't rule on pending redistricting lawsuits. The goal here is to at least delay new maps past 2024. She doesn't have to be convicted, just impeached, and then they can slow-walk the trial.

This is all about Republicans not wanting to give up any power whatsoever. Hence the incessant whining from WISC Republican justices and lawmakers.

She can resign and be immediately replaced or the court can force the trial to go on.

This would be viewed as well as election denialism.   It'd probably tank the GOP's chances to win WI in 2024.

The Senate Majority leader has said they have no authority to slow walk the trial.

It's not even denialism - just straight up strongmaning over a result they don't like.

You act like they care. Most of them probably know the chances aren’t good for trump to beat Biden, so why let them have the house?

The Wisconsin GOP has nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing this. At the end of the day this is just a desperate last-ditch effort to preserve their minority rule before the maps are redrawn.

Probably. The WI GOP stripped powers from Evers after Walker lost in 2018, so this doesn't seem beneath them.

And Evers gets to appoint a replacement possibly Protasiewicz therefore what do they gain? If even one Republican senator votes no it fails.

No - why would swing district Republicans commit political suicide?

They don’t think they can be touched is the issue. If they blink, they’re done.

Whether impeachment would actually delay or prevent new maps, or be a good idea in the long-term (electorally speaking) is debatable, but the fact is, Republicans are still considering it:

This leads me to believe it will fail in the Senate and the majority leader has said they don't have the authority to delay indefinitely.

Couldn't the State Senate refuse to hold the trial and leave it limbo indefinitely? I though the Senate Majority leader said they don't have the authority to do this.

They could try but this is what would likely happen:

-Protasiewicz sues in Dane County which has jurisdiction over legislature matters arguing that she has the right to a quick trial.
-Liberal Dane County judge rules in her favor.
-Republicans appeal to the Supreme Court without her.
-Court at best deadlocks 3-3, which means the Dane County ruling stands. Although I bet they'd rule in her favor outright 4-2, because Hagedorn generally doesn't tolerate this type of hijinks.

So they can't do it indefinitely, but could attempt it as a stalling tactic.

Also, Evers would appoint a replacement if she was removed, and they can't just impeach and remove people until a Republican is acting governor because the entire line of succession for governor is Dem.

I think this is the likely outcome if they impeach. I can't see Hagedorn ruling against her.

Feels like pursuing a clearly doomed impeachment against somebody who will wield essentially unchecked influence over your powers and political future once the drama is over is incredibly bad politics/interest maximization, but that's just me.
