Quote
Joe Wurzelbacher, the Ohio man who became well-known as “Joe the Plumber” after questioning Barack Obama about his tax plan during the 2008 election campaign, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 49.

Wurzelbacher died on Sunday morning after a months-long battle with pancreatic cancer, according to close friends. He is survived by his wife Katie, their three young children – Samantha Jo, Henry and Sarah Jo – and an adult son, Joey, from a previous marriage.

That's too bad. It must be bizarre to be used as a political prop the way he was in 2008, and 49 is way too young to die. I hope his family and community remember him for more than just his 15 minutes of fame.

I wouldn't say he was used, he ended up running for congress after all (albeit losing badly). Still, RIP and condolences to his family.

Seems like an HP from what I can tell:

Quote
In an open letter to the parents of victims who died in the 2014 Isla Vista killings, Wurzelbacher wrote of his right to "protect my family" stating, "As harsh as this sounds—your dead kids don't trump my Constitutional rights ... We still have the Right to Bear Arms ... Any feelings you have toward my rights being taken away from me, lose those.

Joe wasn't the most tactful guy in life, but I agree with him fully here.  The misfortunes of others do not dictate that my rights be taken away.  And keeping and bearing arms is a Fundamental Constitutional Right; it's not a mere privilege.

An HP is someone that wishes to deprive me of my Constitutional Rights.  I don't care what your motivation is; if you want to deprive me of any Constitutional Right, you're an HP.

I wouldn't want a whole Congress full of Joe Wurzelbachers, but 10-15 of them, ordinary folks who worked their own trade businesses, would be an improvement.

Literal "I wouldn't wish that on my enemies" stuff. Dying of cancer at 49 is tragic.

Anything or anyone from the 2008 presidential campaign makes me feel nostalgic given that it was the first one that I seriously followed. RIP.

Imagine being a person who thinks that liking the Star Wars sequels is a more grave offense than insulting grief-stricken parents who lost their kids at the hands of a psychopath.
Don't be that person.

I don’t know why more resources aren’t poured into this. My step dad lasted 6 weeks with this.

Condolences my grand aunt lasted almost half a year with it.

Pancreatic cancer have the potential to be one of the easiest or most dangerous form of cancer, if the cancer develop in the end (the head end) where gallbladder enter the bladder, it cut of the flow of bile and the disease is discovered early through the feces changing color and it’s easily dealt with. If it happen in the other end (the tail end) the cancer will almost always only be discovered when it’s far too late.

But luckily it’s a relative rare cancer.

RIP. I hope he had more productive and enjoyable years after his 15 minutes of fame and delving into such messy politics.

That said my initial reaction was that I was surprised he wasn't much older because I thought he was in 2008. Good example of how conservatives age faster...he's only 34 in this pic!

Wow. He really wrote that? Holy sh*t. Horrific.

That statement reads like a caricature of American gun fetishists.

I wonder if this made a blurb in my local paper today. I'll have to go find a print copy on Thursday.

This right here is enough to not even give phony condolences. He wasn't a nice man, so his death is just another death. Death is inevitable.

RIP. Gone way too soon. Cancer is a vicious disease and the surviving rate of pancreatic cancer is among the lowest, if not the lowest.

Not a fan of his politics, but you don't have to be to be sorry for him and his family.
