Supposedly, Trump promised to never touch Social Security and Medicare, while Romney was tied to Ryan and attacked a lot for potentially cutting Social Security and Medicare. Yet Romney seemed to have gotten a higher percentage of seniors than Trump.

This is not actually a particularly effective attack on a Republican candidate. Anyway, my guess is that criticisms along the lines of 'norms and values' are more resonant for seniors, who have observed American politics for longer and might have keener senses of what the norms exactly are, and are likelier to perceive the ways in which Trump is a departure from those norms.

Exit polls are often iffy, and I’ve wondered about those from 2016 showing the drop in Republican support among seniors. Having said that, remember that Obama was much more of a young person’s Democrat than an old person’s Democrat, and Hillary Clinton just never sparked much enthusiasm among my fellow millennials or other young people. And shame on us for that.

Did he really? Exit poll crosstabs aren't very reliable. Especially in 2012 where the Hispanic vote was insanely overestimated.

This is not actually a particularly effective attack on a Republican candidate.

Yeah, the candidate that promised no entitlement cuts did much better in retiree communities than the one who did. Who would have guessed?
