Clinton would have provided the same ticket balancing that Biden would have. Clinton's name recognition and ties to her husband (a former president) would have balanced Obama's relative lack of experience and outsider appeal.

Additionally, Clinton would have provided an appeal to Southern voters. Polling showed Clinton beating McCain in Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and West Virginia. It also showed Clinton doing better than Obama in North Carolina and Florida. Clinton would have had a geographic advantage that Biden did not have.

An Obama/Clinton ticket might have also stopped the PUMA movement dead in its tracks, further helping Obama's nationwide support.

Should Obama have chosen Clinton as his running mate? He was more than happy to choose Clinton as his Secretary of State, and Republicans were certainly not flipping a New York Senate seat in 2008.
