This is worrying - I fear a trend in polling has shown Jindal beating Breaux twice now.  Given everything that has happened in Louisiana, I think the state has soured on Democrats - they could lose the Governorship this year and the Senate seat next year.

I hope Jindal wins. The only thing I'm concerned about is Landreiu's Senate seat.

I wouldn't wish Jindal on anyone.

Louisiana keeps going Republican, yet I remember reading somewhere that some said Katrina helped the Democrats in the 2006 Congressional Elections. Weird.

That's because 2006 was more of a national election, a referendum on the president, this is a local election.

I'm not sure why that would be the case. Louisiana voted more Republican in its House races than any other state in the country (and by a wide margin).

I doubt Jindal will ever be governor of LA. LA is too conservative, they wont elect him over a white man.

Notice that Jindal is now below the 50% line...I don't think this is the surefire winner everyone thinks.

That has usually been the case in Louisiana.  Most incumbents in Louisiana end up running unnopposed because of the primary system and there are 5 Republicans and only 2 Democrats in the delegation.  It would make sense for Republicans to have a 5 to 2 advantage in the statewide House vote.

It seems like Breaux might be spooked out of the race...I hope he doesn't get cold feet!

Are Dems favored to retain the LG and AG positions?  It seems like the GOP should have some competitors for those offices if they are expecting a Jindal landslide.

Unless something changes, Jindell will probably win. Breaux has failed to make up significant ground on him.

I don't think there's ever been a single campaign in which nothing changed the entire time.

2001 General Election in the U.K? Of course a lot changed in individual constituencies over the campaign; the overall picture didn't.

I imagine it did help the Democrats nationally, and I think that's what most people who say Katrina helped the Democrats in 2006 were saying.

Katrina may have helped solidfy Democratic Rep. Charlie Melancon's position in his marginal seat.  Meanwhile, it also helped the significantly less vulnerable GOP Rep. Boustany.  Note that Boustany and all of the other GOP representatives in Louisiana did not face serious Democratic opponents.  In some ways the trauma of Katrina may have put  a freeze on recruitment there.
