Probably the most likely answer considering that Taft and TR won a combined 50.868% of the vote in Nebraska in 1912, meaning that the state presumably would have been a flip from D to R under normal circumstances, mirroring its voting pattern from 1896, 1900, and 1904 (swing state when a favorite son was on the ballot, reliable GOP lean otherwise).

An ordinarily Republican-leaning voter with whom Bryan's message in 1908 resonated more so than did Wilson's message in 1912 - probably white, working- or lower-class, and socially and culturally conservative, perhaps someone dependent on the charity of their local GOP's political machine, and who may have even voted against Bryan in 1896 and/or in 1900.
