An annoying earworm about vapid superficiality or a genius work of satirical pop that presaged music and cultural aesthetics (Hyperpop, Barbiecore) that came decades later?

Regardless of how annoying it is, it is a strong earworm but the Trump version is better

Why can't it be both?

It's a decent enough dance / pop tune. Nothing fancy or masterful. Lyrics are either really bad and cringe (lyrics are meant to be taken at face value) or not too bad at all but also not genius or anything (lyrics are meant to be satire).

I love Aqua  Yellow heart.  It's the kind of music that's just fun, and we need more music like that.  "Cartoon Heroes" is another one by them that's very catchy.

I was always surprised how in major mode's full of life songs Aqua hid a tragic content.

One of the worst songs ever made. Can't hold a candle to any emo.

It is an annoying song, but that's kind of intentional. As such I don't really mind it. It also makes me very nostalgic for my childhood in the 1990's.

Did you see the Todd in the Shadows vid on it?

I prefer Doctor Jones as a song tbh, especially the weird chant thingy they do in the chorus.

Very representative of the era, that's for sure.

I voted Freedom Song on the median but it's definitely not something I'd play more than once on a road-trip.

Yes, of course. Seeing the various classical covers of this song released recently has made me want a full version of Todd's harpsichord "Barbie Girl" cover.

Yes — a song that is often cited as a sign of the declining quality of late-90's music that, in truth, is a brilliant statement about the decline of society in the late 90's.

The unstoppable force of melodic brilliance meets the unmovable object of lyrical cringe. It really defies all attempts to rate it.
