From 2000 to 2018 FL was a tilt-R state, with Republicans frequently winning by about 1 point but Democrats sometimes winning in good years for them. Now, it seems like a strongly Republican state.

Some places surprise in the next presidential election following an anomalous midterm result, but it seems like FL is destined for at least R +8-10 in 2024 given the partisan registration numbers.

Here is an article written recently by a (now mostly retired) FL-based Democratic strategist on his experiences with the state party over the past three decades. In his view, it was the party's decision to outsource key party operations (including things like voter registration) to outside groups in 2009 that set the stage for Republican gains in the state since then - in particular, he mentioned in earlier articles he wrote elsewhere that Republicans chipped away at Democrats' longtime voter registration advantage from 2008 onwards until they finally claimed the advantage in 2021 and have continued to build on that advantage since then.

I would have to attribute it to interstate migration during the COVID pandemic courtesy of blue state conservatives who seeked to live in a state more palatable to their views on lockdowns and the such.
