He's changing an iconic logo and branding for no reason. He tried to do this BS with PayPal back in the late '90s, thankfully he was stopped back then. Unfortunately, he has full reign over Twitter and this will probably be the death knell of Twitter.

Unfortunately? Twitter is trash both pre-Musk and post-Musk. It isn't just politics, even TV and movie fandoms are at their worst on the site. No discussions worth having come from the cesspool.

I suppose an X is more subtle than a headstone.

Not sure if it is as bad of a rebrand as HBO, but it is still really bad. Max not only destroyed one of the most recognizable brands in home media & television but also ruins the platform's SEO.

It's more and more clear that Tesla's success was due to other people (minus the cars that caught on fire of course). He's taken a brand that was making money and decreased the value for stupid reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if a name change was next. Why not just call it Elon's Kingdom?

His success is rooted in state subsidies and for daddy to own a diamond mine.

Running down twitter as a software is showing just how resilient monopolies are, as even ran by fools it’s not likely a new platform will replace a monopoly.

Important question: Is X spoken as X or as Ten? Do I say someone re-Xed this or re-tenned this?

It doesn't take being wealthy to understand what stupid business decisions are. That aside everyone who is honest knows that other people's decisions are responsible for his wealth. Every idea he has had for Twitter has reduced it's revenue.

You could have made the argument that Musk's success is due to other people if he had only had one such success. But the fact is that he struck gold with both Tesla and SpaceX and  both happen to be in industries with incredibly high barriers to entry (automobile and Space respectively). He really is good at what he does, if awkward.

Being a fan of Musk isn't actually a rare thing outside of America. He is quite popular with science/tech students in my country. The only reason I know that he's controversial is that I happen to follow American politics. Ordinary people who aren't very political see him as a visionary. There's even a painting of him on the walls of my college.

Not sure about anyone else but Twitter has objectively gotten worse. I tried for weeks to clear my feed of Elon, extremist crap and negativity in general (on any issue) and that stuff kept popping up. I'm using it less than ever now and am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience since Elon took over.

The post you're replying to pointed out that he's run Twitter into the ground, to which you have no response. I could point this out again and get a bunch of recommends on my post, but I'll respond to what you want to talk about.

Elon Musk has two relevant skills. His first skill is that in situations where the government wants to create a private market where none currently exists and is willing to pay subsidies to do so, he is willing and able to take those subsidies. This is the scenario with SpaceX (the result of government efforts to create a private market for space travel) and the scenario with Tesla (the result of government efforts to create a private market for electric vehicles). He has no business successes that do not follow this model. Obviously Twitter does not have a business model that allows it to rely on government tax rebates, so his being "good at what he does" has no relevance here.

His second skill is that he is as good as anyone in the world at self-promotion. This is why you think that he is a genius.

Well, he's a fraud and there's plenty of people outside the US that dislike him. So what you're saying is of little relevance.

Bad move, because I am now associating it with a sexually deprived, psychopathic senior woman murdering young, attractive porn filmmakers.

Elon Musk is the hero we didn’t want, but the hero we needed. Which other billionaire else would spend 44 billions ending Twitter, Twitter have been a plague on modern society since the talking class discovered it existed and used it to make public discourse even stupider than it was. But one man saw it and spend his money taking it down in the kind of clusterf**k which it cán nerver rise out of again.
