I don't know if he'd have selected Barefoot Sanders as AG. Sanders was John Tower's opponent in 1972 and he ran a stronger-than-expected race, but he was a Democrat who, while not a Tory, avoided McGovern on the campaign trail in Texas.
What do you think McGovern would have prioritized for an AG? Could Sanders convince McGovern to pick him?
If McGovern had won the elections, it would have been extremely likely that Sanders would have beaten Tower and have been a freshman Senator.
He may have appointed Ramsey Clark.
